Commodore Foxhall A. Parker becomes superintendent. His brother, William H. Parker, had beensuperintendent of the Confederate NavalAcademy during the Civil War.

The Naval Academy is awarded a gold medal atthe Paris Universal Exposition for the best systemof education in the United States.
